To protect its customers from the menace of counterfeit spares, Tata Engineering has launched a systematic multi-pronged campaign against the sale of fake spare parts using the Tata brand name. Pilfer-proof packaging and identification aids have provided customers with additional assurance when they buy Tata spares.

Tata genuine spares can be identified from the unique packaging that incorporates a seven-colour hologram and a price cum identification sticker. The Company will further secure its spares from duplication by introducing laser inscriptions of the Tata logo and an identification number on its spare parts, in the near future.

Tata Engineering is also initiating countrywide raids to expose the sale of spurious spares and take legal action against culprits. The Company's Quality Assurance Department along with legal consultants, have been identifying the sale of fake spares in popular spare parts markets.

Based on a complaint made by Tata Engineering in court, the Central Kotwali Police raided several shops on March 30, 2002, in the automobile spare parts market at section 17 in Ulhasnagar. The seized fakes being sold under the Tata brand name amounted to over one lakh rupees. The police, under the supervision of Senior Inspector Kale arrested Naresh Ramchand Varlani and Ramchand Laxmandas Varlani, the owners of M/s Kamlesh Automobiles and M/s Kamlesh Motor Parts respectively.

In a similar exercise on February 26, 2002, Tata Engineering Quality Assurance Officers accompanied police officers of Crime Branch II (Mumbai police) in a successful raid at the Opera House-Lamington Road spare parts market in Mumbai.

Tata Engineering is also generating countrywide awareness about the spurious spare parts menace through its field staff and dealers.
